The proposal of this route is to reach the viewpoint of Ses Barques by two different routes The ascent is made by the coast of Flassada, while the descent towards Fornalutx is made following the coast of in Nicó.
The starting point of this attractive route is the Plaza de la Constitución de Sóller (very close to the train station). In order to go to Soller football field we have to take the street of “calle la luna”, and then turn on the street of May 11, which will later become the avenue of Asturias, at the end of which we will find the mentioned field of sports. On the left of the course we follow the path of Ses Argiles, ignoring a path, also asphalted to our left.
Plan Excursion Sólller – Fornalutx by the viewpoint of ses Barques Some hundred meters later, we will find on the right the beginning of the Rassada slope, duly signposted. Initially it is a cement road, but soon it becomes cobbled. On each side we will have two stone walls, we will advance between the olive groves and soon we will cross the road of Puig Mayor.
The road goes through different carriageways, although the cobbled pieces are well visible among the olive groves. A little further up, we will join the road of Sa Capelleta (right), which is part of another itinerary. The olive groves are now alternated with the leafy enzymes, offering a delightful landscape.
Further up we converge with the slope of Nicó, where we have to go down, but only for 5 minutes, since then ascends to the viewpoint of Ses Barques, where we can observe one of the best views of the Port of Sóller, also tasting a juice of orange.
We start the descent by the same road and after a short time we will go off following the sign of the slope of Nicó (left). Very soon we will arrive at the road, where we will descend a hundred meters until leaving it to the right. We now follow a carriage path between olive groves, which, when it reaches a barrier, becomes again a horseshoe path with cobbled fragments. The road goes back to the pass and we follow it about 100 meters to the left, until we find a carriage road on our right.
We continue descending with views towards the valley, while the horseshoe road alternates with a carriage road that takes us back to the road, very close to the cross of Fornalutx. We cross the road and follow the cement road that passes in front of the house of “Ses Comes” and takes us to cross the road of Fornalutx. On the other side we follow a paved road that leads directly to Fornalutx, describing various curves, among which are still sections of cobbled road. Following the signage between the olive groves, the remains of a tiled channel accompany us until we soon reach the upper part of Fornalutx. We will enter the town by the street of the Bulls, until we find the street of Plaça, that will take us to Plaça Espanya, nerve center of Fornalutx, where we will finish this itinerary.
Tips and recommendations
The time spent, not counting the stops, can reach two and a half hours, one and a half for the ascent, and one hour for the descent.
Both the slope of Flassada and the slope of Nicó were recovered thanks to a volunteer action organized by the Grup Excursionista de Mallorca in the year 2000, with the collaboration of the municipalities of Soller and Fornalutx and Scout groupings of the Valley and the Consello Of Mallorca.
